One of my favourite pairings of oils to diffuse is DoTERRA Spearmint and Lavender. When diffused into the room they really lift the mood and create a relaxing space of zen. We’ve written before about lavender, there are so many benefits to incorporating it into your daily routines. Spearmint however is a lesser spoken about oil, often overlooked in favour of its brother, Peppermint oil.

So let’s talk about Spearmint. Much like Peppermint it promotes digestion and can help to reduce stomach upsets when taken internally by diluting in water or taking in tablet form. It’s much milder than Peppermint and can therefore be used on children or those with more sensitive skin.

Spearmint contains Carvone and Limonene both properties that can help create uplifting emotions and can assist in helping you to concentrate. I find a little bit diluted in a carrier oil and applied topically when I’ve been concentrating for long periods of time can really help to refocus the mind.

The toothpaste industry has long used spearmint for its ability to cleanse the mouth. There is no better form than pure spearmint oil. Add to your toothbrush one drop before brushing to assist in cleansing the teeth and mouth.

If you want a really lovely kick to your food creations use in your deserts or drinks. One drop in boiled water is a lovely refreshing pick me up but equally I love adding to melted dark chocolate to create my own spearmint chocolates. A real treat is to add to your home cocktail creations. We challenge you to go and get up close with Spearmint….be inventive.
