Fruit oils are amongst the most popular out there, in particular the citrus oils. All fruit oils are associated with the Fire element. When I first heard this I couldn’t quite understand it but the more I read the more it’s easy to see why. Fruits provide nourishment, growth, transformation and new beginnings. The flesh of a fruit is full of juice and vital nutrients, the seed when it falls transforms into something new. How often were you told to eat your fruit as a child? When a citrus tree grows it takes vast amounts of water from the earth, if the fruit falls the rind entirely dehydrates. Fruit resonates so much with wildfires that rip through the landscape stripping the land bare but in their wake new growth follows. Many seeds need fire to open, or trees need to be scorched to find new growth, many animals rush back into fire torn landscapes to make the most of such new beginnings.

It’s no surprise then that lemon, like some of the other fruits is associated with the third chakra, in Sanskrit known as: Manipura. It is located around the solar plexus, glowing a brilliant shade of yellow and intrinsically linked to the Fire element.

For me a lemon is like pure sunshine in a fruit. When I look at them they make me smile; such shiny, bright and happy little fruits! It seems natural to me that lemon oil is associated with youthful energy that resonates with the energy of the sun, aiding in personal growth and expansion. It’s easy to think all citrus oils are alike, don’t be fooled, they are all unique, the energy of the sun and the third chakra are very special qualities of lemon oil.

doTERRA Certified Pure Therapeautic Grade Lemon essential oil is cold pressed from the lemon rinds ensuring the purest of quality. This means there are so many different ways you can enjoy the many benefits of the lemon oil.

Benefits

Lemon is detoxifying and purifying. It can help aid healthy digestion, support respiratory function, and like the fruit it is from, it can create uplifting and stimulating emotions. It has been said that diffusing lemon into the air is great to allow creative thinking to flow.

Uses

Due to its many benefits there are so many uses for the oil.

Lemon is a powerful cleansing agent that purifies the air and surfaces. I’m very planet conscious in my cleaning choices these days, I think it is important we all make sustainable and healthy choices avoiding chemicals where we can. Lemon oil can be diluted to create a non-toxic cleaner which you can use throughout the home. It can also be added to a bit of olive oil to clean, protect and shine wood surfaces – environmentally friendly furniture polish here we come. I have yet to try it on any leather furniture or garments, but if you soak a cloth in the oil it can help to protect the leather and nourish it. The final cleaning tip I can offer is using lemon on lightly tarnished silver or other metals to bring back the shine. When I first started using lemon oil I was so sceptical about its ability to clean, I’d heard older women mention using lemon juice in the past and thought it just an old wife’s tale – surely the juice is sticky right? Well the oil is not, and it really does work! Plant power amazingness!

Due to the purity of the doTERRA oils you can take them internally, when you add a few drops to warm or cold water and drink the lemon not only provides a refreshing and healthy daily boost it can also aid digestion and support healthy respiratory function. One of my favourite tips for the lemon oil is to add a few drops to plain coconut yoghurt, it totally transforms the dessert into a zesty taste explosion, an ideal palate cleanser and is delicious spooned over fresh raspberries and served at a dinner party! That’s my top tip – it’s so easy but makes you seem pretty fancy!

The final use is to diffuse lemon to create a uplifting, positive and creative vibe. Top Tip – add a drop or two of Frankincense and Peppermint oil to really feel alive and zingy in all your senses.

Meditation

I often use Lemon diluted with fractionated coconut oil on my pulse points and diffuse it if I am looking for an uplifting meditation aroma where I focus my meditation on self believe and feeling positive. An affirmation I recommend if you give this a go is:

I shine so bright that others have no choice but to follow me

Warnings: Do be aware that if you are using lemon topically at all there can be skin sensitivity for some and do avoid sunlight or UV rays for 12 hours after applying – you’ll remember the old lemon juice in your hair as a teenager to lift the colour – that’s because lemon, like all citrus, reacts with UV rays and can burn skin. Pregnant or nursing ladies – do always check with your doctor before using any essential oils. All be safe, but go ahead and have a go with the wonderful power of lemon, it is a super fun oil.
