Lavender oil has been adored by civilisation for centuries. The Egyptians and Romans are known to have used the flower as perfume, for bathing, relaxation and even cooking. With such a rich history of uses it is no surprise that Lavender has become the go to oil in aromatherapy in recent years.
As a flower oil, lavender is most closely associated with the water element, which belongs to feelings, love and the more emotional aspects of a being. There is a tradition of associating flower oils with the planets and the days of the week. Herby scents such as lavender tend to be volatile top notes and evaporate off your skin fast, which makes it align perfectly with Mercury with its rapid revolution around the sun and fleetness of foot in astrology.
Flower oils work great with the heart, they can act as a magnet to attract your intentions to you, Lavender is no exception and is powerful at helping you manifest your desires by allowing you to relax and be open to life.
DoTERRA Lavender oil is steam distilled from the flowers of the lavender plant. It is said to be the oil to reach for if you are looking to open yourself up to opportunities and relationships. Benefits
Physically the benefits of using lavender topically in your routine can have great benefits for your skin, reducing irritations of all sorts. When diffused or taken internally lavender can ease tension, relieve anxiety, stress and promote restful sleep.
Uses
When applied topically lavender can reduce the appearance of skin imperfections and sooth a whole variety of skin irritations. A few examples include burns, blisters, bites, dandruff assist with poison oak and ivy irritations and help to relieve pains. I love to add lavender to my bath for a stress relieving, muscle soothing release. Over the years I have had various bouts of insomnia and I have found that diluting a few drops of Lavender oil with water and using that as a gentle pillow spray about 20 minutes before I go to bed in addition to rubbing a few drops on the bottom of y feet really helps to relax me allowing me to sleep. I now associate the smell of lavender with sleep so much if I use it in the middle of the day I often feel like I need a nap!
If you have gone to the trouble of creating your water and lavender spray dilution why not spray it in you linen cupboard or on your mattress to freshen it all up and make it smell beautiful.
DoTERRA lavender essential oil can be taken internally. I find its best to put into one of the veggie caps and swallow like a vitamin, it can help to ease anxiety and stress. If you are using lavender to try and relax and destress, or sleep I really recommend diffusing this with a couple of drops of frankincense into the room.
One of my favourite uses is to use it in cooking, especially lavender cupcakes!
